Company Management and Collaboration with TYPO3

TYPO3 is widely known as a powerful tool for the development of websites -but this is not it's only strength. TYPO3 provides several useful featuresfor the creation of other web-related tools. It will be shown how TYPO3 canbe used as a framework for the creation of an agency management andcollaboration software.

The software was created as a TYPO3 extension named "reciprocity". The mostimportant features that have lead to TYPO3 as the framework of choice are:
1. Security
The security features are very good and are monitored by several peopleespecially the security team.Further on the permission concept of TYPO3 is very flexible thus allowingeasy configuration in many real life situations.
2. TCA
The TCA provides a very powerful and standardised way to specify theappearance of database fields and their editing possibilities. So buildingof forms and templates can be done with minimum effort.
3. Versioning
The Versioning features allow to track all changes to a record in thesystem. This is especially important in situations where multiple editorsare involved.
4. List module
The existing list module provides a great way to display many records at atime and allows navigation within these records.

The main purpose of the extension was to create a web-based companymanagement software that allows to handle quotes, orders, clients,timesheets and accounting. Using FPDF the extension is even able to createall documents based on given company design guidelines.

By means of a case study an overview of the extensions features and moduleswill be given. Additionally it will be shown how easy it is to tailor theextension to a companies needs e.g. inserting custom fonts and customletterpaper for the pdf-creator.
